Course Requirements

Applicants must:

·have gained an undergraduate Honours degree in a related discipline ( Health and life sciences, psychology, social sciences, education, etc) or equivalent qualificationfrom a recognisable university (Direct experience of living or working withautistic people is advantageous), or other approved qualification in a cognate area;

·for non-UK residents, be currently registered within their profession within their owncountry and have access to an appropriate patient base to facilitate study;

·provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (GCSE grade C or equivalent);

In exceptional circumstances, where an individual has substantial and significant experiential learning, a portfolio of written evidence demonstrating the meeting of graduate qualities (including subject-specific outcomes, as determined by the Course Committee) may be considered as an alternative entrance route.Evidence used to demonstrate graduate qualities may not be used for exemption against modules within the programme.

AIMS and Objectives

The course provides a critical understanding of the conceptual frameworks relevant to understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This course will improve knowledge and supporting learning outcomes in the following concepts:

  • To understand complex cognitive and affective theories essential to supporting the autism profile.
  • Enhance understanding and the ability to engage in research- and evidence-based practice
  • Translate theory into practice and to critically evaluate evidence-based approaches to intervention.
  • Improve professional skills in the field that will be able to support children and treament
  • Improve practical skills and mastering diagnosis tools in order reduce the waiting time and enable planning treatment protocols and monitoring development process
  • Develop a breadth of knowledge and understanding of the special needs of children, young people and adults diagnosed with autism

  • Show evidence of critical reflection on professional practice and be able to apply relevant research literature to both personal and professional experience
