Introduction

The programme is designed for those who have a prior qualification in dentistry, dental therapy, dental hygiene, or dental technology, and introduces a pathway to research knowledge and competencies required to practice in the UK as a dentist or dental care professional.

The overall educational aim of the MRes programme is to provide graduate students with knowledge and understanding of UK practice, conduct research and audit of relevant aspects of the profession, training in appropriate technical skills and scholarship skills, such as critical thinking and the capacity to write in the style of their discipline, along with advanced study in areas of their discipline.

Course Requirements

Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a Bachelor Degree in Dentistry, Dental Therapy, Dental Hygiene or Dental Technology.

·Understand and conduct audit on the standards of professionalism in practice and in public

·Understand and research the legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks of health and/ or dental practice in the UK

·Research and incorporate the principles of clinical governance with ever improving standards of patient care validated by systematic audits

·Rely on evidence based and current contemporary patient care by keeping up to date and managing their personal development plans effectively

·Are well prepared for clinical practice in the UK within their scope of practice

·Research and understand the duty of candour and raise concerns if patients are at risk
